Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig or short-shank streamer/wet-fly hook, 4-8
  • Thread Tan 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold bead (3/16 in (sized to hook))
  • Marabou or chickabou plume Tan/gold marabou (1 plume)
  • Ice Dub Golden / minnow-belly (small pinch)
  • Bruiser Blend dubbing (or laser dub) Gold over cream/tan (2 small clumps)
  • Holographic 3D eyes Gold/pearl flash (1 pair, 1/8 in)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold slotted bead onto the hook and seat it against the eye, then start the thread behind it and wrap a short base back to the bend.
  2. Select a tan marabou plume, measure it about one-and-a-half shank-lengths long, and tie it in at the bend for the tail; trim the butts.
  3. Dub a small pinch of golden Ice Dub over the front of the tail tie-in to form a short flash collar, then pull any forward fibers back and lock them with a wrap.
  4. Split a clump of gold Bruiser Blend, spin it into a loose dubbing loop or pinch-and-loop it, and stack it on top of the shank just behind the bead so the fibers sweep back over the tail.
  5. Rotate the fly (or work underneath) and repeat with a cream/tan clump on the bottom to build a two-tone baitfish head that fills the space to the bead.
  6. Stroke all the head fibers rearward, build a small thread dam behind the bead to flare them, then whip finish behind the bead and clip the thread.
  7. Trim the head to a tapered wedge shape, then glue a gold 3D eye to each side with a drop of UV resin or head cement.
