Slide a glass bead onto a curved shank hook (a 16 here) and start black thread behind it. Do not spend many wraps locking the bead; the wire body will do that.
Tail: a few barbs from a black hen feather, not long but not insignificant, bound in at the rear. Take the thread up close to the back of the bead.
Bind in medium wire just behind the bead, on the side toward the top, then wrap the thread back down the shank in close turns to the tail. You can poke the wire tag a hair into the back of the bead first.
Wind the wire forward in touching turns almost to the bead, leaving a small space behind it for the thorax. A tapered underbody is optional and makes little difference.
Bind the wire with several extra turns (70 denier thread needs them on medium wire), helicopter it off, and check for a sharp nub; bury one with a few loose wraps.
Leave the thread at the back of the thorax space. Wax it and spin a tight noodle of synthetic sparkle dubbing about two inches long, then dub the thorax up to the bead.
Whip finish behind the bead and fluff a little of the thorax out with a velcro brush. No head cement.
