Materials
Glass bead Any (black used here) (One, sized to the hook)
Hen hackle Black hen hackle (A few barbs for the tail)
Wire Any (green used here; silver or red also work) (Medium, for the body)
Synthetic sparkle dubbing (Diamond Brite, Ice Dub, etc.) Green or black synthetic sparkle dubbing (About a two to two-and-a-half inch noodle for the thorax)
How to tie it
Slide a glass bead onto a size 16 curved shank hook and start black thread behind it. Do not bother with a lot of wraps to lock the bead, the wire body will do that.
Tie in a few black hen barbs at the rear as a tail, not long but not insignificant, and take the thread up close to the back of the bead.
Tie in medium wire just behind the bead, on the side toward the top, and wrap the thread back down the shank in close turns to the tail. If you want, poke the wire tag a hair into the bead first, just not far enough to leave a sharp point sticking out in front.
Wrap the wire forward in touching turns almost all the way to the bead, leaving a small space behind it for the thorax. A taper is optional and makes little difference.
Take several extra wraps to bind the wire, then helicopter it off. Check for a sharp nub and bury it with a few loose thread wraps.
Position the thread at the back of that thorax space, wax it, and spin a tight noodle of synthetic sparkle dubbing about two inches long.
Dub the thorax up to the bead, filling the gap fully.
Whip finish behind the bead, then brush the thorax out with a velcro brush to pick a little of it out. No head cement needed.
