How to tie it
Add an optional tungsten bead and a lead-wire underbody so this sowbug sinks fast to bottom-feeding fish.
Tie in the rib and a strip of clear scud-back (or plan to coat the bare back) at the bend.
Dub a flat, slightly wide body of grey sow-scud dubbing along the shank, keeping it low-profile like a real sowbug.
Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 turns to segment the body, then pull the scud-back over the top if used.
Pick out the dubbing along the sides so it splays like sowbug legs.
Coat the entire back with clear glass epoxy or UV resin and cure it, this glossy shell mimics the sowbug's segmented carapace and makes the fly bombproof.
Keep it flat and grey, sowbugs are drab and low-slung, not bright.
