  • Hook 1XL nymph hook, 12-18
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Clear or amber glass bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Tail Pheasant tail fibers (small tuft)
  • Body Pheasant tail fibers (wrapped)
  • Rib Copper wire (one strand)
  • Flashback Pearl Flashabou or Mylar (one strip)
  • Thorax Peacock herl (2-3 strands)

How to tie it

  1. Slip the glass bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short pheasant-tail tail at the bend, about half a shank long, then bind in the copper wire.
  3. Wrap a bundle of pheasant-tail fibers forward to the two-thirds mark for a slim body, then counter-wrap the copper rib in 5-6 turns and tie off.
  4. Bind in a strip of pearl flash pointing rearward, then twist and wrap 2-3 peacock herls into a plump thorax behind the bead.
  5. Pull the flash forward over the thorax as a shiny wing case and lock it down behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish, snip, and pick out a few thorax fibers for legs.
