Glass Bead Disco Midge
Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Standard curved midge/scud hook, 18-24
- Thread Red or black 12/0
Materials
- Bead Silver-lined clear glass (1, small)
- Body Pearl or holographic tinsel/Flashabou (one strand)
- Rib/underbody Colored thread (red/black/olive) (smooth base)
- Thorax Peacock herl or black Ice Dub (1-2 turns)
How to tie it
- Slide the glass bead to the eye, mount the hook, and start thread behind the bead.
- Wind a smooth thread underbody down around the bend and back so the colored base glows through the flash.
- Catch in a single strand of pearl tinsel at the rear and wrap it forward in even, touching turns to a bright disco body, then tie off.
- Twist in one strand of peacock herl or a wisp of Ice Dub and take 1-2 turns for a dark thorax behind the bead; use half of what you think.
- Whip finish behind the bead and snip.
- Add a drop of thin UV resin over the flash body for durable, watery shine.
