Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard nymph, 4x long, 4-8
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Body Black or brown chenille (full)
  • Legs White rubber legs (3 pairs)
  • Weight Lead wire (heavy)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the long hook, wrap 15-20 turns of heavy lead, and cover with thread.
  2. Tie in the chenille at the bend, plus a pair of white rubber legs as tails.
  3. Wrap the chenille forward, pausing to figure-8 in a leg pair at midshank and again near the head.
  4. Whip finish. The white legs against the dark body should practically glow.

Substitutions

  • Body instead of Black or brown chenille: Variegated chenille (brown/black) — More realistic mottled look; Black Squishenille — Slimmer profile
  • Legs instead of White rubber legs: Barred white Sili Legs — More realistic barring; Brown rubber legs — More natural color; Crazy Legs (white) — Wiggle tips, extra action
