Ginger Spinner
Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Standard dry fly, fine wire, 14-16
- Thread Orange 8/0
Materials
- Tail Ginger cock hackle fibers (3 fibers)
- Body Stripped ginger quill or orange-ginger dubbing (slim)
- Hackle Ginger cock hackle (1)
- Wing (optional) Pale dun hackle points, spent (1 pair)
How to tie it
- Tie in three long ginger tail fibers at the bend, spread wide.
- Wrap a slim stripped-quill body up to the 70% mark. The bare quill gives the shiny, segmented look of a spent spinner's abdomen.
- Optionally set pale hackle-point wings flat and spent.
- Wind the ginger hackle 3-4 turns and clip a V beneath so the fly sits in the film.
- Whip finish.
