Gilt Coachman
Wet Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Standard wet fly, 10-14
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Tag/butt Flat gold tinsel (3-4 turns)
- Body Peacock herl (3 strands)
- Hackle Brown hen hackle (1)
- Wing White duck quill slips (1 pair)
How to tie it
- Wrap a generous band of flat gold tinsel at the rear quarter of the shank, the 'gilt' that names the fly and adds flash the plain Coachman lacks.
- Twist the peacock herls with the thread and wrap the body forward to the 75% mark.
- Wind 2-3 turns of brown hen hackle as a collar swept back.
- Set matched white duck quill wings low over the body.
- Whip finish a black head.
