Get Down Worm

Nymph · Egg · Trout · Steelhead · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2X-long or scud/curved nymph hook, #10-14
  • Thread red or match body 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten bead (for weight) (1, sized to hook)
  • Weight Lead-free wire (several turns (optional))
  • Body Ultra Chenille / micro chenille (1 length (red, wine, pink, or brown))

How to tie it

  1. Slide a tungsten bead to the eye (and add a few turns of lead-free wire) so this worm gets DOWN fast, which is the whole point of the name.
  2. Lash a length of Ultra Chenille along the shank, leaving a short tag hanging off the bend as the rear worm end.
  3. Wrap thread forward to bind the chenille the length of the shank.
  4. Leave a short tag over the eye as the front worm end, then whip finish.
  5. Singe both chenille tips with a lighter or taper them so the worm ends look natural and won't fray.
  6. Keep the whole thing slim, the tungsten does the sinking so the worm stays lifelike.
