Hook 3x long streamer, barbless, #6-8 (size 6 tied in the video)
Thread Tan (or match the body; black is fine) 140 denier
Materials
Lead-free wire n/a (0.025, seven or eight wraps at the rear of the shank)
Micro rabbit zonker strips (or squirrel) Tan/rust micro rabbit zonker strips (Two, each a bit longer than the hook, for the claws)
Fur dubbing Tan/camel (rabbit or wool also work) (Several generous applications for the body)
Diamond braid Green diamond braid (One length for the rib)
Crystal Flash, thin Pearl flashabou (Four strands (optional))
Rubber silly legs To match the crawdad, tan/brown/orange (Four, two back and two forward)
Dumbbell eyes Any dumbbell eyes (One pair, tied at the front of the hook (the tail end of the fly))
How to tie it
Put seven or eight wraps of 0.025 wire on the REAR of the shank, which is the front of the finished crawdad, and lock it with thread dams front and back using tan thread.
Wax the thread and dub a small bump right at the back of the hook. Its only job is to splay the claws apart.
Tie in two micro rabbit zonker strips, one on each side of that bump, each just a bit longer than the hook and with the fur stripped off the tie-in ends. These are the claws.
Tie in a length of green diamond braid at the same point for the rib.
Wax the thread again and dub a thick body forward, all the way to just short of where the eyes will go. It will take two or three applications; do not worry about a tight noodle. You want bulk.
Wrap the green diamond braid forward in open spirals so it gives a hint of green over the bulky tan body, then tie it off and trim.
Tie in the dumbbell eyes near the hook eye with figure-eight wraps. They are there for weight and to make the fly ride hook-point-up so it snags less.
Tie in four strands of thin Crystal Flash, then a few rubber silly legs: two swept back and two pointing forward like antennae.
Dub a little more body over the leg tie-in to lay everything down, taking a couple of wraps forward and one or two through the legs so the front antennae still lean forward.
Whip finish right behind the hook eye, keeping enough room for 4x tippet, then trim the Crystal Flash to about a body length and shorten the antennae to taste.
