GD Sunburst Perdigon

Classic Recipe

  • Hook jig / competition nymph hook (barbless), #14-18
  • Thread hot orange or sunburst 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten bead, gold (1 (3.0-3.5mm / 7/64 in))
  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers (small bunch, half shank)
  • Body Sunburst/yellow tinsel or Flex-Floss (wrapped tapered)
  • Hot spot/collar Hot orange thread (1 band at head)
  • Wing case dot Black marker or paint (1 dot on top (optional))
  • Coating UV cure resin (thin coat over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook, big end to the eye, so the fly rides hook-up and sinks fast.
  2. Tie in a short tail of Coq de Leon fibers about half a shank long behind the bead.
  3. Wrap a slim tapered body of sunburst/yellow tinsel (or Flex-Floss) from the tail to just behind the bead.
  4. Build a hot-orange thread hot-spot collar right behind the bead.
  5. Add a small black dot on top for a wing-case impression if desired.
  6. Coat the entire body and hot spot in a thin layer of UV resin and cure it, this armor is what makes a perdigon durable and slick so it plummets.
  7. The bright body plus tungsten head gets deep fast in a euro rig, and the sunburst hot spot is the trigger.
