Classic Recipe

  • Hook Salmon single or tube, 2-8 or tube
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Golden pheasant crest (small)
  • Body Black floss (slim)
  • Rib Oval silver (spiral)
  • Wing Yellow hair over red hair (full)
  • Throat Blue guinea (sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tube or salmon hook and start black thread at the rear.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest tail curving up, then catch in oval silver rib.
  3. Wrap black floss forward into a slim body to the front and tie off.
  4. Spiral the silver rib forward in 5 even open turns and secure.
  5. Tie in a full wing of red hair first, then yellow hair over it, streaming back past the bend.
  6. Tie in a sparse blue guinea throat under the front.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
