Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/nymph hook, 14-18
- Thread Gray 8/0
Materials
- Shellback Clear scud back thin skin (Strip of plastic bag / scud back)
- Rib Silver metal tape (Fine wire or mono)
- Body Gray flotation (Muskrat/sowbug dubbing, flat)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook, start the thread and lay a base back to the bend.
- Tie in a clear plastic shellback strip and a fine wire rib at the bend.
- Dub a wide, flat body forward. Sowbugs are broader than they are tall, so spread the dubbing out sideways rather than building it up.
- Pull the plastic shellback flat over the top and bind it at the eye.
- Rib forward in 5-6 open turns to segment the back, then break off the wire.
- Pick out the sides for legs, trim the top flat and whip finish.
