Galloup's Slick Willy

Dry Fly · Streamer · Largemouth Bass · Smallmouth Bass · Panfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook 4X-long streamer hook, #4-6
  • Thread white or match body 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Tail/wing Marabou (1 plume, sparse)
  • Flash Ghost Flash / Flashabou (small amount)
  • Body UV Polar Chenille (wrapped)
  • Collar Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe (1 wrap, brushed back)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a sparse marabou tail/wing about a shank-and-a-half long so the fly stays slim and translucent.
  2. Add a few strands of Ghost Flash along the sides for subtle sparkle.
  3. Wrap UV Polar Chenille forward as a thin, wispy body, stroking the fibers back with each turn.
  4. Tie in Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe and make one wrap as a collar, then brush all the fibers rearward.
  5. Build a small thread head, whip finish, and cement.
  6. Keep the whole fly sparse and translucent, this is a baitfish silhouette that relies on movement and light rather than bulk.
