Galloup's Peanut Envy

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Pike · Advanced · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook Daiichi 2461 or similar wide-gap streamer hook, articulated, #1 (front), #2 (rear)
  • Thread match body (olive, tan, black, white, or yellow) 6/0 (140 denier) or GSP

Materials

  • Rear tail Strung marabou (2 plumes, shank length)
  • Flash Lateral Scale / Flashabou (small bunch each side)
  • Body Ice Dub (dubbed rope, both hooks)
  • Body hackle MFC barred saddle hackle (1 per section)
  • Legs Fly enhancer / rubber legs (2 per side)
  • Connection Senyo Intruder wire + 3D bead (1 loop)
  • Head Brass cone (1 large)

How to tie it

  1. REAR HOOK: tie in two marabou plumes for a shank-length tail and add flash down each side.
  2. Dub an Ice Dub body forward and palmer a barred saddle hackle over it as a collar, then splay two rubber legs per side and whip finish.
  3. FRONT HOOK: connect the rear hook with Senyo Intruder wire threaded through a 3D bead, lashing the loop down the front shank so the joint hinges freely.
  4. Tie in a marabou skirt with flash over the joint, then dub the body forward and palmer another barred hackle collar with rubber legs.
  5. Slide a large brass cone up to the eye and secure it (it replaces the lead eyes of the original Circus Peanut for a jigging head).
  6. Whip finish behind the cone and pick out the Ice Dub so the whole fly looks buggy and full.
  7. Because it's loaded with marabou and hackle, this fly swims with a huge undulating profile on very little current.
