Classic Recipe
- Hook Gamakatsu B10S (front) and SP11 (rear), articulated, #2 (front), #4 (rear)
- Thread brown, olive, or tan GSP 100-200 (to spin deer hair)
Materials
- Rear eyes/weight Lead dumbbell eyes (1 pair)
- Antennae Sili legs (2 strands)
- Rear body Estaz (wrapped)
- Claws Rabbit strip (2 (one per side))
- Connection Wire or heavy mono (1 loop)
- Front carapace Rabbit strip (1, pulled over)
- Front body Estaz (wrapped)
- Wing Saddle hackle (1-2 feathers)
- Legs Sili legs (2-3 per side)
- Head Deer hair (spun and trimmed)
How to tie it
- REAR HOOK: tie a pair of lead dumbbell eyes at the bend end to flip the fly hook-up, then tie in two Sili Leg antennae trailing off the back.
- Wrap an Estaz body and tie in a rabbit-strip 'claw' on each side, splayed out; whip finish.
- FRONT HOOK: connect the rear with a wire or mono loop and lash it down so the crayfish articulates up-and-down and side-to-side.
- Tie in a rabbit strip at the rear to be pulled forward later as the carapace/back, then wrap an Estaz body forward.
- Tie in a saddle-hackle wing and 2-3 Sili Legs per side, then pull the rabbit strip over the top and tie it down as the carapace.
- Spin and stack a deer-hair head, whip finish, and trim it into a broad crayfish head, flat underneath.
- The multiple hinges and the up-riding claws give it a lifelike defensive-crayfish posture on the drop.
