Galloup's Mini-Flatliner

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer / shank with trailing hook, tied to ride on its side, #4-6 (front) and rear stinger
  • Thread white or match head GSP 100-200

Materials

  • Rear tails Two deceiver-style feathers (shank length)
  • Flash Flashabou (generous bunch between tails)
  • Body UV Polar Chenille (wrapped)
  • Wings Marabou (2 plumes)
  • Head Laser Dub (two-tone, spun)

How to tie it

  1. REAR: tie a pair of deceiver-style saddle tails splayed on the shank, sandwiching a generous bunch of Flashabou between them.
  2. Wrap UV Polar Chenille forward to make a flashy body.
  3. Tie in marabou wings so the profile stays baitfish-shaped when the fly lies on its side.
  4. Spin a two-tone Laser Dub head (darker on top, lighter below) and stack it full.
  5. Whip finish and trim the Laser Dub head so the fly is weighted/balanced to ride on its SIDE, not upright.
  6. The on-its-side posture is the whole point. It makes the fly look like an injured baitfish struggling to right itself.
