Classic Recipe

  • Hook streamer hooks, three sections, two articulations (~6 in total), #1/0-2 (front), #2 (mid), #4 (rear)
  • Thread match body (olive, white, black, natural) GSP 200

Materials

  • Tail Marabou (1-2 plumes per rear/mid section, shank length)
  • Flash Krystal Flash (few strands each side)
  • Body hackle Schlappen (2 feathers per section)
  • Legs Rubber legs (2 per side per section)
  • Body Ice Dub or UV Polar Chenille (dubbed each section)
  • Connections Wire or 20-30lb mono (2 loops)
  • Eyes Lead dumbbell eyes (1 large pair (front))
  • Head Deer belly hair (stacked and spun)

How to tie it

  1. REAR HOOK: tie a shank-length marabou tail with flash, dub a short body, palmer two schlappen feathers as a collar, add rubber legs, whip finish.
  2. MIDDLE HOOK: connect to the rear with a wire/mono loop, then repeat the marabou-flash-dub-schlappen-legs sequence, building slightly more bulk.
  3. FRONT HOOK: connect to the middle section the same way so you now have two free-swinging hinges.
  4. Dub the front body forward, palmer a schlappen collar, and add rubber legs, increasing bulk toward the front.
  5. Lash a large pair of lead dumbbell eyes on top so the fly rides hook-up and jigs.
  6. Spin and pack stacked clumps of deer belly hair into a big Dungeon-style head.
  7. Whip finish and trim the head flat-bottomed and blocky so this six-inch fly wobbles and hunts across the current.
