How to tie it
Thread the 3.0mm gold drop bead onto the grub hook and push it to the eye, then start the olive 70D behind it and build a small dam in front so the offset bead hangs the weight below the shank.
Run the thread to the bend and tie in a short bunch of rainbow crystal flash for the tail, about half a shank long, then trim the butts on a taper.
Tie in the olive brassie wire at the bend, then two or three olive ostrich herls, and wrap the herl forward in touching turns to the 65% mark for a soft, fibrous body.
Counter-rib the wire forward through the herl in five or six open turns and tie off. Ostrich is fragile and the counter-wrap crossing the herl fibers at an angle is the only thing that keeps this fly alive after a couple of fish.
Dub a short, spiky golden olive microflash thorax from the 65% mark to the bead, then pick it out underneath so a few fibers hang down like legs.
Whip finish behind the bead and put a light coat of Bone Dry over the ribbed herl body, which the tyer relies on to make an otherwise delicate material durable.
