Materials
Wire Gold wire (rib)
Pheasant tail fibres Natural pheasant tail fibers (7-8, shellback, wing case and beard)
Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (2-3 strands for the body, 1 more for the thorax)
How to tie it
Start brown olive thread on a 2X long nymph hook and tie in gold wire, then seven to eight pheasant tail fibres at the back, leaving the excess hanging for now. Those same fibres serve as shellback, wing case and beard, which is what makes this fly as tidy as it is.
Tie in two or three strands of peacock herl and wrap them forward for the body, then trim them out.
Pull the pheasant tail shellback over the herl body.
Rib forward with the gold wire to segment everything and lock the shellback down, then tie it off and helicopter it out.
Pull the remaining pheasant tail forward to form the wing case, tie in one more strand of herl and wrap the thorax, then tie it off and tear it out.
Pull the wing case over and tie it off, then trim the tips out but save them, flip the hook over and tie them in underneath as a beard.
