  • Thread White Heavy (big-fly) thread

Materials

  • Cone head (small)
  • Lead wire (.025, ~15 wraps)
  • Marabou quill Shad gray (tail)
  • Palmer Chenille Gray / pearl palmer chenille (small (body))

How to tie it

  1. Put a TMC 300 (#8-10, 6XL) hook in the vise, slide a small cone head to the eye, and take about 15 wraps of.025 lead wire up to the back of the cone to seat it.
  2. Start white thread, wrap back over the lead to the bend and forward again, leaving the thread just behind the cone.
  3. Tie in a full shad-gray marabou quill as a tail at the bend and bind the butt forward.
  4. Tie in a length of small gray (pearl) Palmer Chenille at the bend, then wind the thread up behind the cone.
  5. Palmer the chenille forward to just behind the cone and tie it off; trim the excess.
  6. Stroke the excess fibers back, take a couple of wraps behind the cone, and whip finish.
