How to tie it
Start red 140 denier thread anywhere on the shank and tie in the medium mylar tinsel up front with the silver side facing the hook, then wrap the thread the whole way back to the bend over it. Catching it in at the front keeps lumps out of the back end. Bring the thread back to the front and park the tinsel with a magnet.
Tie in the red floss at the front and wrap it back to the bend, then park the thread a couple of eye-lengths behind the eye.
Wrap the floss forward in one flat layer to build a thin body, keeping it lying flat rather than roping up. Tie it off at the front with a couple of wraps and trim.
Wind the silver tinsel forward over the floss in evenly spaced open turns. It will look like a candy cane, tie it off at the front, fold the tag back and take a couple more wraps to lock it in, then trim.
Cut a clump of MFC Scales 'n Tales and tie it in on top as a wing, spinning the thread first so the bunch does not spread out on you. Take a couple of tight wraps, then securing wraps, and snip the excess butts off in front.
Trim the wing to length. With this synthetic you can cut the tips without killing the movement.
Take a small tuft from the base of a green schlappen feather, flip it over and tie it in underneath as a throat, giving just a hint of green.
Snip off the front mess, take the thread right behind the eye and ramp it back to build a large, prominent streamer head. Remember the whip finish adds a few wraps.
Whip finish and coat the head with head cement or UV resin.
