Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph or jig, with tungsten bead, #12-#18
  • Thread Fluorescent pink 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold tungsten bead (slotted, sized to gap)
  • Weight Lead-free (few wraps under thorax (optional))
  • Tail Coq de Leon (few fibers)
  • Body Pheasant tail (fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Thorax/Hot Spot UV pink material (Ice Dub)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold tungsten bead to the eye, mount the hook, and add a few lead-free wraps behind the bead if extra weight is wanted.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon tail, about a third of a shank long, at the bend.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire and a bunch of pheasant tail, then wrap the pheasant forward to the 70% mark for a slim abdomen.
  4. Counter-rib the copper wire forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns and tie off to protect the body.
  5. Dub a bright UV-pink hot-spot thorax against the bead, keeping it sparse.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement or resin.
