Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph, 60-degree, slotted bead, #12-#18
  • Thread Fluorescent pink 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold tungsten bead (slotted, sized to gap)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (few fibers)
  • Body Pheasant tail or natural dubbing (fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Hot Spot Fluorescent pink rear bump (Ice Dub thorax)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted gold tungsten bead onto the jig hook and mount it, starting thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon tail at the bend, about a third of a shank long.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire and pheasant tail fibers, then wrap the abdomen forward to the 70% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the copper wire in 4-5 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
  5. Dub a bright pink hot-spot thorax against the bead, using half the dubbing you think you need.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of UV resin for durability.
  7. Tight-line it dead-drift along the bottom as a searching Euro nymph for trout and grayling.
