  • Hook Jig nymph hook, barbless, 12-16
  • Thread Black or to match 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold (flash) or matte black (subtle) (1, sized to hook)
  • Coq de Leon or pheasant tail fibers Natural coq de leon or pheasant tail fiber (Small bunch for tail)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural / dyed pheasant tail fiber (4-6 for body)
  • Fine wire Copper or gold fine wire (1 strand for rib)
  • Hot-spot dubbing Pink, shrimp orange or chartreuse (Small pinch)
  • Flash (as legs) Pearl / opal flash (A few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the tungsten bead on the jig hook, slot up, and start the thread behind it, wrapping back to the point.
  2. Tie in a short tail of coq de leon or pheasant tail fibers, about half a shank-length long.
  3. Catch in the fine wire rib and a bundle of pheasant tail fibers by their tips at the tail base.
  4. Wrap the pheasant tail forward to the 70% point to form a slim body, tie off and counter-wrap the wire rib forward in even turns; secure and helicopter off the wire.
  5. Fold a few strands of flash over the top as short leggy accents, sitting back over the body.
  6. Dub a small, bright hot-spot collar of pink/orange/chartreuse dubbing right behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
