Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig or standard nymph, with tungsten bead, #12-#18
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper tungsten bead (slotted, sized to gap)
  • Tail Coq de Leon (few fibers)
  • Body Pheasant tail (fibers)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Hot Spot/Thorax Orange or chartreuse material (Ice Dub or thread collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook, starting thread behind the bead.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon tail at the bend, about a third of a shank long.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire and a small bunch of pheasant tail, then wrap the pheasant forward to the 70% mark for a slim abdomen.
  4. Rib the copper wire forward in 4-5 turns and tie off to armor the body.
  5. Dub or wind a bright hot-spot thorax against the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement or UV resin.
