Classic Recipe
Hook Single salmon/steelhead iron, 2-8
Thread Black 6/0
Materials
Tail Purple hackle fibers (small bunch)
Rib Oval silver tinsel (1)
Body Fl. fire orange wool, fl. red wool, then black chenille (3 sections)
Hackle Purple saddle (1)
Wing White calf tail with pearl Krystal Flash (sparse clump)
How to tie it
Tie in a tail of purple hackle fibers, about half a shank length.
Tie in the oval silver rib, then build the body in thirds: a band of fluorescent fire orange wool at the rear, fluorescent red wool next, and black chenille over the front half. The hot butt bands glow like signal lights behind the black body.
Spiral the rib forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns.
Take 2-3 turns of purple hackle as a collar and sweep it back.
Tie in a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash, then a sparse white calf tail wing over them, reaching the tail.
