How to tie it
Stack a small clump of Golden Brown Dyed Deer Body Hair and trim it to a tail a quarter to a third of the shank. Start the Orange Veevus 14/0 and spiral back over the hair while holding it on top of the shank, then bite through it on the way forward.
Tie in a length of extra small copper wire along the side of the shank with firm wraps.
Cut a strip of Gold 2MM Thin Foam about the width of the hook gap. Jump the thread over the foam, pull down tight, take a wrap on the shank, and repeat, forming a small foam butt.
Wax the thread and apply Golden Brown Ice Dubbing a little at a time, first packing wraps tight against the foam to cover the thread, then dub forward to about three-quarters of the shank, level with the tail tie-in.
Wrap the wire over the foam and park both in a materials clip. Tie in a Brown Whiting High and Dry hackle at the front and palmer it back to the foam in even spiral turns. Catch the feather under the wire, wind the wire forward through the hackle, tie off, spiral the wire out, and trim the hackle stem.
Brush the hackle aside, pull the foam forward over the body, take one loose wrap then bite down with tighter wraps. Wrap up over the foam to the eye and spiral back, keeping the foam centered on top; trim the foam short to keep it manageable.
Tie in six strands of Pearl Krystal Flash on top, bound back to the foam.
Cut a strip of Yellow Web Wing the width of the foam, round the end, and tie it in on top centered, length between the tail and the body. Trim the Krystal Flash a little longer than the Web Wing.
Stack a generous clump of Golden Brown Dyed Deer Body Hair, trim to length so the tips brush the end of the tail, pre-kink the fibers with a finger, capture with one loose wrap and tighten gradually.
Tie a thick clump of White McFlylon in centered on top, then trim it to half the wing length or less. Trim any yarn butts.
Tie a Yellow Medium Grizzly Barred Rubber Leg on each side and bind them forward toward the head, stopping short of the foam so the front legs face forward.
Tie in a slightly oversized Grizzly Whiting High and Dry hackle at the back of the head, trim the stem, and dub one thin strip of UV Red Ice Dubbing in front of the legs. Wrap the hackle from the body forward in a couple of spiral turns, last turn against the foam, capture with two wraps, pull the foam forward and whip finish underneath it. Trim the hackle, trim the rear legs a hair longer than the body and the front legs a hair shorter, and trim the foam leaving a small lip.
