Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry, straight eye, #6-#12
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Body Tan carapace (2mm foam strip)
  • Underbody Amber vinyl rib medium (fine dubbing)
  • Body Hackle Brown hackle (1 saddle, palmered)
  • Wing Natural case (elk hair)
  • Legs Barred rubber legs (round rubber, 2 pairs)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (2mm foam tab)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the 30% mark above the barb.
  2. Tie in a brown saddle by the tip and a tan foam strip at the tail base, then dub a thin amber underbody.
  3. Wrap the foam forward in touching turns to the 65% mark to build the abdomen and secure.
  4. Palmer the brown hackle forward over the foam in 5-6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Stack and tie in an elk-hair wing reaching the bend, then figure-8 two pairs of rubber legs at the thorax.
  6. Cap the head with a short orange foam indicator tab and whip finish beneath it.
  7. Trim the leg tips and clip any stray wing butts.
