Ice Dub To match the body (Body, leg spacer and head)
Silly legs with glitter Green silly legs with glitter (2 per side)
How to tie it
Lay a base of yellow thread from behind the eye back to the bend.
Take one strand of thin crystal flash, fold it over on itself twice, and tie it in at the middle at the bend. Pull the loops back and you have eight strands of tail.
Cut a strip of 3 mm foam a good bit wider than the hook gap and notch the tie-in end so it seats without excess bulk. Pinch it around the shank at the bend and take several firm wraps, keeping it centred on top so it cannot spin. Check it is set far enough back.
Tie in a grizzly-dyed-yellow hackle at the same point, ready to be palmered.
Wax the thread and spin on a long, thin noodle of Ice Dub. At least four inches, or plan on two applications. Dub the body forward to the 70% point.
Palmer the hackle forward through the dubbing to the thread, tie it off and trim.
Fold the foam forward over the body, pinch it around the shank keeping it on top, and take several medium-tension wraps. Go too tight with 70 denier and you will break the thread. You should have a broad beetle-like carapace over the back.
Tie two green glitter silly legs in on each side at the middle of the tie-down point. If they stick straight out and you would rather they angled, drag them around under the edge of the foam to reposition them.
Add a little more Ice Dub and wrap it up between the legs, which pushes them out to the sides and holds their angle.
Put one more small application of dubbing on and wrap it up under the front foam tag to prop the nose up, being careful not to clog the eye. Whip finish with a zigzag so you do not trap any legs, then trim the front foam lip. Long enough to push water when you twitch it, short enough to cast.
