Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry/emerger, down eye, #18-#24
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Shuck Gray flotation (few Antron fibers)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (tying thread)
  • Rib Silver metal tape (fine wire (optional))
  • Wing/Post White uni stretch (1mm foam strip)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tiny hook and start thread mid-shank.
  2. Tie in a wisp of gray Antron shuck at the bend, short and sparse.
  3. Build a slim, smooth thread abdomen forward to the 70% mark, optionally counter-ribbing with a strand of fine silver wire.
  4. Post a short tab of white foam upright at the 70% mark to act as both wing bud and sighter.
  5. Dub a small pinch of black thorax around the foam post, using half the dubbing you think you need.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and clip the foam post to a low nub.
