Materials

  • Shuck Amber vinyl rib medium (Antron or Z-lon fibers)
  • Body Brown mottled material (hare's ear or pheasant tail dubbing)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (fine wire)
  • Wing/Back Tan carapace (2mm foam strip)
  • Legs Brown partridge (1 feather, fibers)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (coarse dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the curved hook and start thread at mid-shank.
  2. Tie in a sparse amber shuck at the bend, half a shank long, then bind a strip of tan foam and a length of copper wire at the same point.
  3. Dub a tapered mottled-brown abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-wrap the copper rib forward in 4-5 turns for segmentation and tie off.
  5. Pull the foam over the back to form a shiny emerging wing case and bind it down at the thorax.
  6. Wrap a soft partridge collar for legs, dub a stout brown thorax, then bring the foam over once more and lock at the eye.
  7. Whip finish and trim the foreward foam to a short stub.
