Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry, down eye, #12-#18
  • Thread Gray 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Medium dun material (hackle fibers, split or bunched)
  • Body Gray flotation (1 turkey/goose biot)
  • Wing Post White uni stretch (2mm foam strip)
  • Thorax Adams gray (fine dubbing)
  • Hackle Grizzly and brown hackle (1 each, parachute)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a tail of dun hackle fibers one shank length long.
  3. Bind a gray biot at the tail, wrap it forward in touching turns to the 65% mark for a segmented body, and secure.
  4. Post a short strip of white foam upright at the 65% mark and take a few turns around its base to stand it up.
  5. Tie in grizzly and brown hackles at the post base, dub a slim thorax fore and aft of the post.
  6. Wind both hackles together parachute-style around the foam post in 4-5 turns and tie off against the post.
  7. Whip finish at the eye and clip the foam post to a stub.
