Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry, 10-14
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Body Black foam strip (folded)
  • Legs Black round rubber (2 pairs)
  • Wing Black poly or deer (flat)
  • Indicator Orange foam (dot)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the dry hook and run black thread the length of the shank.
  2. Tie in a black foam strip at the bend, then bind it down at two or three points to form segments, leaving a stub at the rear.
  3. Set a flat black poly or deer-hair wing over the body, tips to the bend.
  4. Tie in two pairs of black round rubber legs, splayed to the sides.
  5. Fold the front of the foam forward over the thorax to build a head, and cap it with a small orange foam sighter dot for visibility.
  6. Bind everything down, whip finish and varnish the thread.
