Flyweight Scud
Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/emerger hook, 14-18
- Thread Tan or olive 8/0
Materials
- Body Tan/olive carapace (fine sparse scud dubbing)
- Shellback Clear scud back thin skin (thin Scud Back or stretch film)
- Rib Fine copper or mono (4-5 turns)
How to tie it
- Mount the curved hook and lay a thread base around the bend.
- Tie in a thin strip of clear Scud Back at the bend, pointing back, then bind in the rib.
- Dub a slim, tapered body forward to the eye, keeping it sparse and buggy; use half the dubbing you think.
- Pick out a few belly fibers to suggest legs.
- Pull the clear shellback over the top and bind at the eye.
- Counter-wrap the rib forward in 4-5 evenly spaced turns to segment and lock the shell, then tie off.
- Build a small head and whip finish.
