Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet-fly hook, 12-16
  • Thread Primrose / pale yellow 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Ginger spandex life flex (few soft hackle fibers)
  • Body Creamy tan (spun fox/hare belly dubbing)
  • Rib Fine gold wire (optional)
  • Hackle Ginger/cream hen (1-2 turns, sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a few ginger soft-hackle fibers for a short tail, about half a shank long.
  3. Spin a slim, creamy-tan fur body on waxed thread and wrap forward to the 75% mark, keeping it translucent.
  4. If ribbing, counter-wrap a fine gold wire in 4-5 open turns and tie off.
  5. Tie in a cream-ginger hen hackle by the tip and take only one to two soft turns.
  6. Sweep the fibers back, form a neat head, and whip finish.
