How to tie it
Pinch the barb and lay a base of red thread from behind the eye to the start of the bend.
Tie in a matched pair of red duck slips at the bend as a tail, deliberately long and noticeable. Pinch the feathers and the hook together, take one wrap, lift and check that they are sitting on top, then adjust and lock. Snap the butts off short.
Take the thread forward in wide open wraps and tie in the medium silver mylar tinsel rib at the front, then wrap it back down to the tail. Park it with a magnet.
Tie in the white four-strand rayon floss at the front, snipping the ends level, then wrap it down the shank to the tail and back to the front in one smooth pass. Twist it together if it starts to split on you. Tie off and trim.
Wind the silver rib forward over the floss in five or six evenly spaced open turns so plenty of white shows between them, tie off with two or three tight wraps and trim.
Take the thread to the back of where the head will be. Stack a modest clump of white bucktail, measure it to reach back to the tail tips, cord the thread clockwise for a better bite, and lock it on top with three or four tight wraps. Trim the butts at an angle.
Stack a clump of Christmas green bucktail, tie it in on top of the white slightly longer, with a pinch wrap and three securing wraps, then trim the butts.
If the wing is lying flatter than you want, lift all the hair up and take one or two wraps directly underneath it to prop it to the height you want.
Tie a slip of mottled turkey in on each side of the bucktail as a topping, about as long as the wing, keeping the thread at the rear of the head before the first wrap.
Tie a jungle cock eye in on each side as cheeks, build a big red head, whip finish and cement.
