Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry hook, #8-#12
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Body Tan/golden material (fine dubbing)
  • Underwing Amber vinyl rib medium (few strands Antron)
  • Wing Dun microfibetts (web wing or hen tips, flat)
  • Hackle Ginger hackle (1, clipped flat underneath)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (fine rubber (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread mid-shank.
  2. Dub a slim tan body from the bend to the front third, keeping it lean so the fly sits low.
  3. Tie a few strands of amber Antron over the body as an underwing.
  4. Lay a flat down-wing of webbing or hen tips over the back reaching to the bend.
  5. Wrap a ginger hackle at the head, then clip the fibers flat on the underside so the fly settles flush in the film.
  6. Add optional rubber legs, whip finish and cement; dress only the wing with floatant.
