Reference Recipe

  • Hook Dry-fly / emerger hook (TMC 2488), 14
  • Thread White Nano silk 50 denier

Materials

  • Sparkle emerger yarn (shuck) Brown zelon (quarter strip)
  • Iridescent thread (Veevus, rib) Shrimp pink (1 strand)
  • Turkey biot (body) Light Cahill (1 biot)
  • Parapost yarn (post) Light tan parapost yarn (1 section)
  • CDC (wing) White cdc (2 feathers)
  • Tactical dry-fly dubbing (thorax) Pink PMD (small amount)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a short brown sparkle-emerger-yarn shuck and a strand of shrimp-pink iridescent thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a turkey biot by the tip, add a tiny drop of super glue on top, and wrap the biot forward notch-up to create a segmented body; tie off.
  3. Wrap the iridescent thread through the biot segments as a rib and tie off.
  4. Tie in a parapost yarn post under the shank with wraps in front and behind to prop it up, then wrap the base of the post.
  5. Pair two white CDC feathers, load them into a split thread, spin, and wrap up the post to build the parachute wing.
  6. Dub a pink-PMD thorax with crossing wraps around the post and pull the fibers down.
  7. Whip finish and trim the wing to length.
