Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry hook, #6-#10
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Underbody Tan/orange material (foam strip)
  • Body Tan/brown crust accent (dubbing over foam)
  • Rib/hackle Brown hackle (1 saddle, palmered)
  • Wing Natural elk (1 clump)
  • Legs Brown silly legs nymph size (round rubber)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (foam or poll tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and bind a tan foam strip along the shank to guarantee flotation.
  2. Dub a tan body over the foam from the bend to the front third.
  3. Palmer a brown saddle hackle over the body in 5-6 open turns and tie it off.
  4. Tie a natural elk-hair wing flat over the back reaching just past the bend.
  5. Add a set of rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps.
  6. Fold a short orange foam tab or bright tuft over the head as a sighter, whip finish and cement.
