Baitfish · Striped Bass · Bluefish · False Albacore · Jack · Tarpon · Snook · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard streamer/saltwater, straight eye, #1/0-#4
  • Thread Black 3/0

Materials

  • Tail Purple arctic fox (craft fur or bucktail)
  • Flash Purple/pearl flash (few strands Flashabou)
  • Body/head Black ostrich herl (spun deer hair)
  • Belly Purple arctic fox (deer hair)
  • Eyes Yellow/black material (1 pair stick-on)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a purple craft-fur or bucktail tail about one shank length, with a few strands of flash.
  3. Spin black deer hair over the rear of the shank, adding a purple belly clump, and pack it tight.
  4. Continue spinning and packing deer hair forward to the eye for a buoyant minnow head and body.
  5. Whip finish, then trim the spun hair into a rounded baitfish head, flat on the bottom so it pushes water.
  6. Glue a stick-on eye to each side and coat with flexible cement.
