Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard saltwater, straight eye, #1-#2/0
  • Thread White 3/0

Materials

  • Tail White/chartreuse material (4-6 saddle hackles)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (6-10 strands Flashabou)
  • Collar/body White uni stretch (bucktail, tied around shank)
  • Topping Green/blue material (few strands or peacock herl)
  • Eyes Painted or stick-on (1 pair (optional))

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to a point above the barb.
  2. Tie in four to six saddle hackles paired back-to-back as a splayed Deceiver tail one-and-a-half shank lengths long.
  3. Add several strands of pearl Flashabou over the tail.
  4. Working forward, tie sparse bucktail collars around the shank at two or three stations so the fly builds a full baitfish body without a heavy head.
  5. Top with a few strands of green or blue over the back for a dorsal line.
  6. Build a neat head, add eyes if desired, whip finish and coat with resin.
  7. Wet-preen the wing so it collapses to a slim silhouette when stripped.
