Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard or curved midge hook, #16-#22
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver (optional) bead (1)
  • Body Clear/red/black material (Flexo tubing over thread underbody)
  • Underbody Red or black material (thread)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (fine dubbing)
  • Wing case/gills White goose shoulder (tiny poll tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Optionally add a small silver bead, then mount the hook and lay a smooth colored thread underbody to the bend.
  2. Slide or tie a length of fine clear Flexo (hollow braided) tubing over the shank so the colored underbody glows through it.
  3. Bind the tubing down at the bend and wind thread forward to compress it into a slim segmented body, stopping behind the bead.
  4. Dub a small dark thorax at the front.
  5. Add a tiny white tuft over the thorax for gills, kept minimal.
  6. Whip finish and add a drop of UV resin over the body for shine.
