Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/pupa hook, #12-#18
- Thread Black 8/0
Materials
- Bead Silver or black bead (1, sized to gap)
- Body Red/black/olive material (Flexi Floss or Spanflex)
- Rib Fine wire (optional) (silver)
- Thorax Black/peacock ice dub (dubbing or herl)
- Gills White uni stretch (small tuft antron or poly)
How to tie it
- Slide a small silver bead to the eye and mount the hook, running thread to the bend.
- Tie in a strand of Flexi Floss at the bend, stretching it thin.
- Wrap the Flexi Floss forward in touching turns to build a slim, segmented body up to the bead, letting the stretch create tapered ribbing.
- Tie off the floss and dub a slightly thicker thorax of black dubbing or a turn of peacock herl behind the bead.
- Tie in a small white tuft at the front for gills, keeping it sparse.
- Whip finish behind the bead and coat the body with thin UV resin or head cement for a glassy look.
