Tyer Recipe

  • Hook 3XL nymph/streamer hook, 6-10
  • Thread Gray or black 6/0

Materials

  • Muskrat fur dubbing Natural gray muskrat dubbing (generous)
  • Gray squirrel tail Natural deer hair (small clump for wing)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the bend and dub a full, shaggy gray muskrat body forward over most of the shank.
  2. Pick out the dubbing to leave a buggy, translucent body.
  3. Stack a small clump of gray squirrel tail and tie it in as a wing lying over the back, extending to about the bend.
  4. Fold back the squirrel guard hairs to form a suggestion of a collar, build a small head, and whip finish.
