Terrestrial · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry/terrestrial, #8-#12
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Underbody Black ostrich herl (black foam strip)
  • Body Black/olive material (2mm foam, flat-tied)
  • Underwing Pearl anti static bag strip (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Wing Natural/dun material (deer hair or web wing)
  • Legs Black/orange rubber legs (round rubber)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (foam tab)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a thread base along the shank.
  2. Bind a strip of black foam at the bend and along the shank to build a flat, floating underbody.
  3. Fold a second wider foam strip over the top and bind it down at two or three points to segment the flat back, leaving a stub over the eye.
  4. Tie in a few strands of Krystal Flash and a deer-hair or webbing wing flat over the body, reaching just past the bend.
  5. Add a set of rubber legs on each side with figure-8 wraps at the mid-body.
  6. Trim a small orange foam sighter onto the head stub, whip finish and cement.
  7. Snip the front foam to a short blunt head.
