Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph/wet hook, 12-18
  • Thread Brown/orange 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Copper (optional) bead (sized to hook)
  • Tail Pheasant tail fibers (few)
  • Abdomen Pheasant tail fibers (wrapped)
  • Rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Flashback Pearl tinsel (1 strip)
  • Thorax Peacock herl or hare's ear (small pinch)
  • Soft hackle Hungarian partridge (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook (add a copper bead if desired) and start thread.
  2. Tie in a few pheasant tail fibers for a short tail and catch in copper wire.
  3. Wrap the pheasant fibers forward to the 65% mark, then counter-rib the wire in 5-6 turns.
  4. Tie in a strip of pearl flash, then dub a short peacock or hare's ear thorax.
  5. Pull the flash over as a flashback and bind at the front.
  6. Wrap 2 turns of soft partridge hackle for a collar and sweep the fibers back, then whip finish.
