Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 12-18
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Body Peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Shellback Black foam (1 strip)
  • Flashback Pearl tinsel (1-2 strands)
  • Legs Black rubber legs (1-2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the dry-fly hook and start thread.
  2. Tie in a strip of black foam at the bend, then a strand or two of pearl flash on top of it.
  3. Wrap a plump peacock-herl body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Pull the foam shellback over the top, then pull the flash over the foam, and bind both down behind the eye.
  5. Tie in rubber legs splayed to each side.
  6. Trim a short foam head and whip finish underneath.
