Flashabaetis Nymph

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard or jig nymph hook, 16-20
  • Thread Black 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Black or copper slotted tungsten (sized to hook)
  • Tail Coq de Leon fibers (small bunch)
  • Abdomen Mirage/pearl flash (wrapped)
  • Coating Thin UV resin (over abdomen)
  • Flashback Mirage/pearl tinsel (1 strand)
  • Thorax Black or olive ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat a slotted tungsten bead, mount the hook, and start thread.
  2. Tie in a few coq de leon fibers for the tail, half a shank long.
  3. Bind in mirage flash and wrap it forward to the 65% mark for a flashy abdomen, then coat with thin UV resin for durability.
  4. Tie in a strand of flash for the flashback wingcase.
  5. Dub a small buggy thorax of dark ice dub behind the bead.
  6. Pull the flash over as a wingcase and bind behind the bead, then pick out a few fibers for legs. Whip finish. Dead-drift or Euro-nymph it as a baetis nymph in clear tailwaters where extra sparkle draws strikes.
