Flash Side Minnow

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater/streamer hook, 1/0-4
  • Thread White (or clear mono) 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Belly/tail White synthetic (EP) fibers (clump)
  • Body White synthetic fibers (successive clumps)
  • Flash Wide pearl/silver Flashabou (along each side)
  • Back Olive or gray synthetic fibers (clump)
  • Eyes Stick-on (1 pair)
  • Head UV resin (coating)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread near the bend.
  2. Tie in a clump of white synthetic fibers top and bottom for the belly and tail base, about two shank lengths.
  3. Move forward and add successive sparse clumps of fiber, building a baitfish profile toward the eye.
  4. Lay wide pearl flash along each side so the fly flashes when stripped.
  5. Cap with a darker olive or gray bundle over the top for the back.
  6. Trim to a minnow shape with scissors, set stick-on eyes, whip finish, and coat the head with UV resin.
