Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1XL nymph hook, 10-16
  • Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Gold tungsten bead (sized to hook)
  • Weight Lead-free wire (6-8 wraps)
  • Tail Brown goose biots (2, split)
  • Body Peacock herl (2-3 strands)
  • Rib Gold wire (1 strand)
  • Flashback Pearl tinsel (1 strip)
  • Wings White goose biots (2)
  • Hackle Brown hen (2 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Seat a gold bead behind the eye, mount, start thread, and slide a few wraps of lead-free wire up to the bead.
  2. Split two brown biots at the bend for the tail, half a shank long.
  3. Tie in gold wire and a strand of pearl flash, then wrap a plump peacock-herl body to the bead.
  4. Counter-rib the gold wire forward in 4-5 turns to protect the herl.
  5. Wrap 2 turns of brown hen for a collar and sweep it back.
  6. Tie two white biots in a V flat over the back, then pull the pearl flash over as a flashback and bind behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish.
