Flash Fly

Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Salmon/steelhead up-eye hook, 2-6
  • Thread Red 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Tail Silver flashabou (full clump)
  • Body Flat silver tinsel/mylar (1 length)
  • Wing Silver flashabou (generous clump)
  • Collar Hot-pink schlappen/saddle (1 feather)
  • Head Red thread (coating)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Tie in a full clump of silver Flashabou for the tail, about one shank length.
  3. Wrap a flat silver tinsel body forward to the 75% mark and tie off.
  4. Tie in a generous wing of silver Flashabou over the top, reaching the end of the tail so the whole fly shimmers.
  5. Wrap 3-4 turns of hot-pink schlappen as a collar and sweep it back.
  6. Build a red thread head and whip finish.
